Henning Klostermeyer (born February 6, 1933 in Marcellino-Ramos, Brazil ) is a German food chemist . From 1978 until his retirement he was Professor of Dairy Science and Biopolymers at the Technical University of Munich at the Weihenstephan Science Center.

Life

Klostermeyer first completed an apprenticeship as a gardener. After working as a laboratory worker, he passed the chemical laboratory technician's substitute examination, which entitles him to study at the State Engineering School for Mechanical Engineering in Essen. He received the subject-specific university entrance qualification here. In 1958 he began studying chemistry at RWTH Aachen, which he finished in 1963. For his academic success he was awarded the Springorum commemorative coin . In 1965 he completed his dissertation, which he had worked on at the German Wool Research Institute under H. Zahn. He was awarded the Borchers badge for his dissertation .

From 1965 to 1971 he was a research assistant at the chair for textile chemistry and macromolecular chemistry at RWTH Aachen University . At the end of 1970 he completed his habilitation in macromolecular chemistry there. In February 1971 he moved to the Institute for Chemistry at what was then the Federal Institute for Dairy Research in Kiel as director . From the winter semester 1971/72 he received a teaching position for "Chemistry of Food" at the Christian Albrechts University in Kiel.

In 1978 he was finally appointed to the chair for milk science at the Technical University of Munich at the Weihenstephan site as the successor to Friedrich Kiermeier . The professorship was associated with the management of the chemical and physical institute of what was then the South German Research and Laboratory for Dairy Farming. The institute was later renamed the Institute for Chemistry and Physics of the Research Center for Milk and Food (FML).

Work as an editor

From 1984 Klostermeyer was a member of the editorial board of the magazine for food research and investigation (ZLUF, later renamed "European Food Research Technology"), on whose advisory board he had been since 1979. He was also a specialist for the journals "Hormone and Metabolic Research", and a consultant for the " European Journal of Biochemistry " and the journal "Milchwissenschaft".

Scientific work

The focus of Klostermeyer was on the analysis of milk ingredients and their influence in food processing. In his working group 165 diploma theses, 65 dissertations and two habilitation theses were prepared, which have led to almost 400 publications. We owe him the establishment of the "Molecular Biotechnology" course at the Technical University of Munich, which has already been copied by other universities. He also wanted to convert his chair to the chemistry of biopolymers.
