Henning Schaller (born January 21, 1944 in Altenburg / Thuringia) is a German set designer and university professor .

Schaller studied commercial graphics from 1962 to 1967 , and from 1967 to 1972 set and costume design at the Art Academy in Berlin-Weißensee under Heinrich Kilger. From 1972 to 1974 he was a master student of the Academy of Arts with Karl von Appen at the Berliner Ensemble. 1973 1st engagement at the theater of the city of Halle / Saale. From 1974 to 1977 stage and costume designer at the Volksbühne Berlin, there collaboration with Fritz Marquardt, Jürgen Gosch, Siegfried Höchst, Thomas Langhoff, among others. From 1977 to 1992 he worked at the Maxim-Gorki-Theater Berlin, from 1980 as chief stage designer.

During the fall of the Berlin Wall he was also politically active, became a member of the New Forum , was one of the organizers of the Alexanderplatz demonstration on November 4, 1989 and moderated the event.

In 1992, Schaller became professor of stage and costume design at the Dresden University of Fine Arts and, in 1999, head of the stage and costume design class there. In addition, from 1996 to 1999 he was chief stage designer at the Dresden State Theater .
