Life

Henri-Charles Plaut: Collegiate Church in Baden-Baden , 1867

Henri-Charles Plaut was born in Paris in 1819. Little is known about his family circumstances. His brother-in-law Ernest Ladrey was also active as a photographer in Paris from 1860 onwards. In 1851 the first portraits can be assigned to Henri-Charles Plaut. The first significant exterior photograph of Notre Dame dates from 1852 and appeared in the album Paris photographie by Goupil & Cie éditeurs. Between 1852 and 1855 he received several patents on photographic processes and coloring techniques with wax. In 1854 he took part in the Exhibition of the Industry of All Nations in New York , where he received a medal for a Châssis multiple . In 1867 Henri-Charles Plaut took part in the World Exhibition in Paris.

In addition to his photos from Paris and his development work in the field of stereo photography , Plaut's activity as a traveling photographer on his travels through Europe between 1857 and 1867 is of particular interest. Plaut usually took several photos of a place or a town, often choosing unusual perspectives. He mostly moved the recordings as stereo views. The Maison H. Plaut catalog from 1865 is subdivided according to country and subject. Between 70 and 400 photographs were offered from each of the most important countries in Western Europe. There are also smaller selections of genre recordings and images from museums. Henri-Charles Plaut worked in his studio in Paris, Rue Vanneau 52, until the end of 1870. The end of life is lost in the dark.
