Life

Beecke came from a family in the Palatinate and grew up in Diedenhofen in Lorraine , where he also passed his Abitur. He received his artistic training at the Karlsruhe Academy, the Munich Academy of Fine Arts and the Berlin Academy. He then stayed in Paris for some time and then settled as an artist in Metz from 1900 to 1905 . In 1905 he moved to his native Strasbourg.

In Strasbourg he became a well-known portrait painter. Among other things, he also painted the temporary mayor of the city, Rudolf Schwander . Other areas of his artistic output were painting such as landscapes, flowers and still lifes, as well as his graphic work, for example the posters for the Second Artists' Ball in Strasbourg in 1907 and numerous other works in advertising.

After the First World War , Beecke did not have to leave his homeland, but stayed in Strasbourg until his death. In the interwar period he was a member of the informal group of artists named after the Benedictine Abbey of Saint-Léonard in Boetsch . He was able to retreat there after the evacuation of Strasbourg in 1939. After his return in 1940 he painted, among other things, workers in the steelworks in Hayange in Lorraine. After 1945 he was not charged as a collaborator and was able to produce a fresco for the facade of the Clinique Sainte-Anne in the Robertsau district of Strasbourg .
