Henri Clignet
Henri Clignet (* 1607 ; † 1683 ) was Mannheim city director in the 17th century .
Life
Henri Clignet, a wealthy merchant of Walloon descent, was Mannheim's city director from 1653 until his death in 1683 and thus effectively the city's head.
Services
Henri Clignet is considered to be a central figure in the constitution of Mannheim's city privileges of 1652, which enabled exiles to migrate to Mannheim after the Thirty Years War . Mannheim became attractive for Walloon and Huguenot religious refugees as well as a home for Jewish, Polish and Hungarian families.
Honor
In the Mannheim district of Neckarstadt-Ost , two streets and a square were named after Henri Clignet in 1904.
In Altenkirchen (Palatinate) there is a memorial stone in the cemetery that reminds of Clignet's work.
