Henri Gault (born November 4, 1929 in Pacy-sur-Eure , † July 9, 2000 in Saint-Sulpice-en-Pareds , Département Vendée ) was a French gastronomy critic and journalist .

Career

Gault worked for the French evening newspaper Paris-Presse , where he met Christian Millau (1928-2017). Both devoted themselves to culinary topics. The Paris restaurant guide Guide Juillard, first published in 1962, developed from this . From 1969 Gault and Millau published the Gault Millau restaurant guide .

Millau and Gault coined the term “ nouvelle cuisine ” around 1972 together with their friend André Gayot (* 1929) .

Gault's fondness for good cuisine stemmed from the hunger he suffered during World War II . He called it the "late revenge" on hunger. The reviews of Gault and Millaus received a lot of attention because they often used cynical sarcastic criticism of cooks. 1986 Gault left Gault Millau .

He died in western France in 2000.
