Henri Lacroix

Henri Lacroix (born February 22, 1895 in Montreal , † November 9, 1962 ) was a Canadian harmonica player.

Live and act

Lacroix played the harmonica as an autodidact as a child. From 1914 to 1921 he served in the Royal Navy . As a member of the Navy Band he performed a. a. in England in the Crystal Garden . It is not known which instrument he played in the Navy Band.

After his return to Canada he performed a. a, in Conrad Gauthier's Les Veillées du bon vieux temps with folk musicians such as Mary Bolduc , Isidore Soucy and Ovila Légaré . He also toured Canada with Mary Bolduc's troupe in the 1930s. Between 1927 and 1939 he recorded around 140 titles for various labels, partly as a soloist, partly with groups called Trio d'Henri , Les Gais Villageois , Henri LaCroix et les Sérénadeurs canadiens , Quatuor Lacroix or Henri et ses Habitants . In the 1930s he also had radio appearances, u. a. with the fiddler JO LaMadeleine . Folkway Records released a selection of his best recordings in 1982 as part of its Masters of French Canadian Music series .
