Henri Tribout de Morembert

Henri Tribout de Morembert (born April 1, 1912 in Paris , † August 25, 1996 in Metz ) was a French historian and archivist .

Henri Tribout studied at the École pratique des hautes études and initially worked as a journalist for the newspaper Le Républicain Lorrain . During the Second World War he worked in the Resistance , for which he received the Croix de guerre 1939-1945 in 1946 . In 1945 he changed his name to Tribout de Morembert, after an extinct family from Troyes . From 1949 until his retirement in 1977 he was head of the city archives of Metz with the title Conservateur du patrimoine .

Henri Tribout de Morembert published mainly on the history and church history of Lorraine . From 1979 to 1994 he was co-editor of the Dictionnaire de biographie française . In 1961 he became a member of the Académie nationale de Metz , of which he was chairman from 1973 to 1976 and from 1979 to 1982. From 1969 to 1979 he was chairman of the Société d'histoire et d'archéologie de la Lorraine, and from 1970 to 1989 he was a member of the University Council of the University of Metz .
