Henrick Hooft
Henrick Hooft (born September 3, 1617 in Amsterdam , † December 12, 1678 in Amsterdam) came from the Amsterdam rulers of the Hooft . The landlord of Oudkarspel , Schoten and Schoterbosch was a relative of the poet Pieter Corneliszoon Hooft and was an important member of the Amsterdam city government between 1655 and 1678.
The son of Hendrik Willemszoon Hooft (1584–1626) and Haesje Houtloock (* 1589) found his political beginnings as councilor and alderman in his hometown, and then in 1662 first became the governing mayor .
In 1640 Henrick Hooft and his wife Aeghje Hasselaer († 1664) were portrayed by Michiel van Mierevelt on the occasion of their wedding . This marriage had eight children, including Gerrit Hendricksz Hooft and Willem Hooft, two future mayors.
In 1662 Hooft joined Cornelis de Graeff , Cornelis Jan Witsen and Cornelis van Outshoorn against the purchase of Rembrandt's painting The Conspiracy of Claudius Civilis , which was intended for the interior of the Amsterdam Paleis op de Dam .
After De Graeff's death in 1664, the party, which was able to position itself around Henrik Hooft and Andries de Graeff , created the antithesis to Mayor Gillis Valckenier and the then re-emerging pro- oranic currents. In 1669 Hooft represented the republic as envoy in Poland , and after the Rampjaar in 1672 he sat together with Valckenier in the city government that was transformed by the Orange after the overthrow of Johan de Witt , around 1677 together with the same against the efforts of Cornelis Geelvinck and Wilhelm III. of Orange to put a stop to the war with France .
Hooft, who was also friends with William Temple , married Maria van Walenburgh (before 1617–1679), from whom he inherited Oudkarspel , Schoten and Schoterbosch .
