Henry Austin (politician)

Henry Austin (born October 20, 1920 in Sakthikulangara , Kollam , † May 15, 2008 in Thiruvananthapuram ) was an Indian politician and ambassador .

Life

Henry Austin was a journalist, politician, social worker, trade unionist, and Congressman from Kerala . He attended school in Kollam and studied at St. Aloysius College (Mangalore) , the Society of Jesus in Mangalore , Karnataka and in Nagercoil, and Washington, DC He graduated from the Art Academy in Thiruvananthapuram , Kerala, where he then at the Law School of Law studied .

From 1959 he was a member of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) of the Indian National Congress .

From 1959 to 1961 he was Secretary General of the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee .

From 1971 to 1973 and from 1977 to 1980 he sat for the constituency of Ernakulam Lok Sabha Kerala in the Indian parliament . In the 1979 election he stood in the constituency of Ernakulam Lok Sabha Kerala, Xavier Arackal for the Congress Party, who had spoken out for Indira Gandhi .

From July 28, 1979 to January 14, 1980 he was in the government of Chaudhary Charan Singh Permanent Secretary of State for Civil and Food Supply.

From September 2, 1987 to March 3, 1990 he was ambassador in Lisbon .

Austin visited his daughter in Thiruvananthapuram, where he died on the way to the hospital. He lies in the cemetery of the Infant Jesus Church in Kochi (India) .
