Henry Bacon (painter)
Henry Bacon (* 1839 in Haverhill , Massachusetts , † April 13, 1912 in Cairo , Egypt ) was an American painter.
Life
During the American Civil War , Bacon fought in the Union Army . He enlisted on July 16, 1861 for the 13th Massachusetts Infantry and in parallel with this service he acted i. A. of Frank Leslie's Weekly magazine as a war painter .
On August 29, 1862, Bacon was badly wounded in the Battle of Bull Run . After he was able to leave the hospital again, he was dismissed from service with effect from December 19, 1862. During the following two years of convalescence, Bacon married Elizabeth Lord and went to Paris with her in 1864 . There he was at the École des Beaux-Arts a . a. Pupil of Alexandre Cabanel .
Henry Bacon died in Cairo in 1912 at the age of 70 during a study trip to the Middle East .
