Henry Bridges

Henry "Hank" Bridges (* around 1908 in Oklahoma City ; † July 27, 1986 ) was an American jazz musician ( tenor saxophone ).

Live and act

Bridges played with Don Byas early in his career , then with Charlie Christian in Territory bands in the second half of the 1930s ; In 1938 he toured with Alphonso Trent . He worked in Leslie Sheffield's Territory Band in the late 1930s, which also included Charlie Christian and trumpeter Bernard "Buddy" Anderson . From 1940 he was a member of Harlan Leonard and His Rockets ; with the band first recordings were made in Chicago and New York. Bridges was considered the orchestra's outstanding soloist. He did his military service in the United States and Europe. After the war he worked in California; u. a. he was involved in recordings of singers Julia Lee ("Gotta Gimme Whatcha Out", 1946; # 3 in the R&B charts ), Clifford Blivens (1949), Peppy Prince , Helen Humes and Damita Jo (1950). In the field of jazz he was involved in eight recording sessions between 1940 and 1950. He spent his later years in Los Angeles.
