Henry Cavendish (politician)

Lord Henry Cavendish (* 1673 ; † May 10, 1700 ) was an English nobleman and politician .

Life

Cavendish was the second son of William Cavendish, 1st Duke of Devonshire from his marriage to Lady Mary Butler, daughter of James Butler, 1st Duke of Ormonde . As the younger son of a duke , he used the courtesy address "Lord" Henry Cavendish from 1694 .

From 1690 he undertook a grand tour through the Holy Roman Empire and the Netherlands and studied in 1691 at the University of Padua .

On 30 October 1695 he was appointed as a deputy for the Borough Derby in the English House of Commons elected and re-elected on 26 July 1698th

On August 3, 1696 he married Rhoda Cartwright († 1730), daughter of William Cartwright from Bloxham in Oxfordshire . With her he had a daughter, Mary Cavendish (1700–1778), who in 1716 married John Fane , 7th Earl of Westmorland .

He died at the age of 27 and was buried at his father's family home, Chatsworth House in Derbyshire.
