Henry Deku
Henry Deku (born December 13, 1909 as Heinz Dekuczynski in Berlin , † September 3, 1993 in Munich ) was a German philosopher .
Life
Heinz Dekuczynski came from a Jewish merchant family. His parents died early and he grew up with his aunt Rosa Dekuczynski.
After graduation in 1928 at Friedrichswerder school studied at the Friedrich-Wilhelms University in Berlin Philosophy ( Max Dessoir , Romano Guardini , Nicolai Hartmann and Eduard Spranger Mathematics (), Ludwig Bieberbach , Erhard Schmidt and Issai Schur ) and Classical Philology ( Werner Jaeger ) . He received his doctorate, but the dissertation was no longer accepted for political reasons. In 1938 he was taken to the Buchenwald concentration camp in “ protective custody ” . After his release in 1938, he emigrated to England and then on to the USA. There he joined the army in 1943 and returned to Germany in 1945.
He taught philosophy at the University of Munich for many years. In 1983 Deku received the Federal Cross of Merit . In 1984 he was appointed honorary professor at the Faculty of Philosophy, Philosophy of Science and Statistics at the Ludwig Maximilians University .
On February 22, 2019, Stumbling Blocks were laid for him and his aunt Rosa Dekuczynski in Berlin, Wullenweberstrasse 6.
