Henry Ely

Henry Arturo Ely Rodríguez (born January 29, 1938 in Santiago de los Caballeros ) is a Dominican opera singer (tenor).

Life

Ely had his first musical training as a member of the Coro José Oviedo García under the direction of Apolinar Bueno . From 1964 he studied at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome with Inge Caggiano. He continued his training at the Centro de Perfeccionamiento of the Teatro Massimo in Palermo with Ines Alfani-Tellini and Gino Bechi . He then received a three-year engagement at the Teatro Massimo and performed during this time. a. in the operas Arlechinatta , Partita a Pugni , La traviata , La Fanciula del West and Pagliacci .

In 1968 Ely made appearances on Cleveland television in the United States. In 1975 he took part in the Opera Days of the Teatro Nacional de Santo Domingo . The following year he received gold medals as artist and concert singer of the year. In 1977 he appeared at the Teatro Nacional in the operas Carmen and La traviata . For his appearance in Il trovatore in 1980 he was awarded the Talía de Plata . In 1983 he gave a concert in Miami with the pianist Vicente Grisolía .

At the end of the 1980s he took part in the Opera Sotto le Stelle festival organized by Impresario Américo D'Santis in Rome, and in 1992 at the world premiere of Antonio Braga's opera in 1492 at the Teatro Nacional . Ely recorded several records, including Selecciones de óperas , Hermanas Mirabal , Henry Ely en eterno amor and Mi Quisqueya . He was awarded the honorary title of the Facultad de Humanidades of the Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo and the Orden de Duarte Sánchez y Mella .
