Henry Fiol

Henry Fiol (* 16th January 1947 in New York City ) is a US -American singer , composer , percussionist and songwriter. His father was a Puerto Rican , his mother an American with Italian roots. He has three sons. He studied art at Hunter College, New York, and began his career as an art teacher in Catholic schools and then as an advisor to students with behavioral disorders in New York state schools.

Fiol drew the covers of his LPs himself and in 1978 won the Latin New York magazine's award for the best cover of the year for Saoco's album "Siempre Seré Guajiro". Since CDs with their smaller cover format replaced LPs, he has preferred photographic designs. He began his musical career in the early 1970s as a conga player and supporting singer. From 1974 to 1978 he played with the group Saoco, which he helped found. He was a singer and played congas. From 1980 to 1982 he recorded as a soloist and had several number 1 hits in Colombia , Venezuela , Ecuador and the Dominican Republic and toured Latin America. From 1983 to 1984 he founded "Corazón" with the characteristic line-up of trumpet and tenor saxophone . Between 1983 and 1987 he founded the record label Corazón Records and adopted his trademark of black and red clothing with the symbol of the heart. From 1987 to 1991 he appeared again as a soloist. In 1989 he recorded an album with his son Orlando, in 1990 he recruited another trumpet into his band. Although he can neither write nor read sheet music, he also composes. His tours also took him to Canada and Europe .
