Henry Michael Foley (born June 1, 1917 in Palmer , Massachusetts , † August 14, 1982 in New York City ) was an American physicist.

Foley studied at the University of Michigan , where he made his bachelor's degree in 1939, his master's degree in 1939 and his doctorate in 1942. From 1942 to 1944 he was a scientist at the Office of Scientific Research and Development and from 1944/45 to the Laboratory for Applied Physics at Johns Hopkins University . From 1946 he was at Columbia University , where he was assistant professor in 1948 and professor in 1954. From 1957 to 1960 and 1971 to 1973 he headed the physics faculty there. In 1949 he became a Fellow of the American Physical Society .

In 1948, together with Polykarp Kusch, he determined the anomalous magnetic dipole moment of the electron. The exact value was an important test for the quantum electrodynamics that was developing at the time .

He was a member of the JASON Defense Advisory Group .
