Henry Stuart (politician)
Henry Stuart ( April 5, 1804 , † October 26, 1854 ) was a British politician who was elected four times as a member of the House of Commons .
Henry Stuart came from an old branch of the Stuart family . He was a younger son of the Archbishop of Armagh , William Stuart , and his wife Sophia Penn . His father died in 1822, after which Henry's older brother William inherited most of their father's estates. William was elected to the House of Commons as a Member of Parliament for Bedfordshire on several occasions , but withdrew from politics in 1834. In the general election in 1837 Henry Stuart was then elected as a candidate for the Conservative Party for Bedfordshire. The defeated previous MP Samuel Crawley then challenged the election, whereupon in 1838 this was confirmed as a MP instead of Stuart. After Crawley resigned in 1841 , Stuart was re -elected as MP for Bedfordshire in a by- election. He was re-elected in the general election in 1847 and 1852. After his death, his nephew, William Stuart , was elected MP for Bedfordshire in a by-election.
Stuart was one of the founders of the Freemason Lodge Stuart Lodge in Kempston in 1847 .
