Henryk Adamus
Henryk Adamus (born February 19, 1880 in Warsaw , † October 13, 1950 in Gołąbki ) was a Polish composer, conductor and cellist.
life and work
Adamus was first a student at the Warsaw Conservatory and then a student of Stephan Krehl (composition) and Julius Klengel (cello) at the Conservatory in Leipzig.
After working as principal cellist in the Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra and in the opera orchestra there, he took on the position of director of the Kalisch Music Society. Eventually he took over the leadership of the Warsaw Opera Choir.
Adamus wrote the two operas Sumienie (The Conscience, 1918) and Rey w Babinie (The King and the Child, 1922). Both operas were premiered in Warsaw. He has also composed two symphonic poems, a solemn overture and a few shorter instrumentals.
