Stephan Krehl

Stephan Krehl (born July 5, 1864 in Leipzig , † April 9, 1924 in Leipzig) was a German composer, music teacher and musicologist.

Krehl studied music in Leipzig and Dresden. From 1889 to 1902 he was a teacher for piano and music theory at the conservatory in Karlsruhe . From 1902 until his death he taught in Leipzig. He was the director of studies there from 1921 to 1924. His students included the Spaniard Pablo Sorozábal (1897–1988), Günther Ramin , Rudolf Mauersberger , Rudolf Wagner-Régeny , Peder Gram , Edvin Kallstenius , Stevan Hristić , Heinrich Sthamer , Johannes Weyrauch , Claus Clauberg , Hermann Weil and Fritz Reuter .

He is the author of several textbooks on music theory such as the “Allgemeine Musiklehre” from 1904. His work as a composer comprises around 30 works for piano, violin and clarinet.
