Konrad Körner (musician)

Konrad Körner (born September 8, 1941 in Berlin ) is a German saxophonist and clarinetist, until his retirement he was also a professor for clarinet and saxophone and for several years rector of the Leipzig Music Academy .

Körner's musical career began as a clarinetist with the Jazz Optimists Berlin , of which he was a member from 1961 to 1964. In 1966 he completed his studies as a saxophonist and clarinetist and worked as a freelance musician in various jazz ensembles from 1966 to 1979, including the Theo Schumann Jazz Formation and Panta Rhei . From 1979 to 1980 he was a member of the Rundfunktanzstreichorchester Berlin, from 1981 to 1992 with alto saxophone, clarinet and flute member of the Radio Big Band Berlin and the Rundfunktanzorchester Berlin. In 1982 he founded his own quartet with the Jazzterday ensemble .

From 1986 to 1990 he was a saxophonist and flutist in the Dieter Keitel Big Band , and from 1987 to 1990 he was a member of the Max Greger Orchestra with saxophone and clarinet .

From 1991 to 1992 he taught clarinet and saxophone at the Hanns-Eisler-Musikhochschule Berlin and at the Musikhochschule Leipzig. Since 1992 he has been artistic director of the Brandenburg State Youth Jazz Orchestra, which he founded himself.

From 1992 to 2006, Körner held a professorship for saxophone, improvisation and ensemble playing at the University of Music and Theater in Leipzig. Since October 2000 he was dean of Faculty III. Between 2003 and 2006 he was the rector of the university.

Körner has performed at numerous concerts with musicians such as Peter Herbolzheimer , George Gruntz , Thad Jones , Alexander von Schlippenbach , Ack van Rooyen and Greetje Kauffeld and has participated in jazz festivals in Los Angeles , Sacramento , Ljubljana , Debrecen , Radenci , Berlin , Breda , Hanover , Prague and Dresden . He worked as a studio musician as well as a theater and film musician.

Konrad Körner is married to the singer Sascha Thom and lives on the Kaulsdorf Lakes on the outskirts of Berlin.
