Heo Mok (허목, 許 穆, * 1595 or 1593 in Hanseong ; † April 27, 1682 ) was a Korean politician and neo-Confucian Daoist philosopher, painter and poet. He lived in the center of Gyeonggi- do in the famous Yuncheon district . His nicknames were Misu ( 미수 , 眉 叟 ), Taeryungroin ( 태령 노인 , 台 領 老人 ) and Sukhojangin ( 석호 장인 , 石 戶 丈人) .

Life

Heo Mok was born in Hanseong in 1593 or 1595, the son of a minor official. In 1613 he married. After that he was a student of Jeong Gu until 1620 . In 1658 he became leader of the southern faction ( 남인 ) and rival of Song Si-yeol of the western faction ( 서인 ). In 1675 he became Minister and Vice Prime Minister (1675–1678) of the Joseon Dynasty .
