Heorhij Wassylowytsch Dsis (born November 1, 1926 in Kiev , Ukrainian SSR ; † July 27, 2003 ibid) was a Ukrainian economist and politician.

Life

Heorhij Dsis studied electrification and mechanization of agriculture at the Nischynskyj Technical University until 1945 and then worked as a chief engineer. In 1950 he graduated from the Kiev Technological Institute of Light Industry, where he worked from 1951 to 1953 as a teacher and then again as chief engineer.

From 1958 he was active in politics. In 1979 he attended the Academy of Economics of the Council of Ministers of the USSR . Between 1985 and 1990, in the 11th legislative period of the Vechovna Rada, the USSR was a member of the Supreme Soviet of the Ukrainian SSR . From 1981 to 1986 he was a candidate for the Central Committee of the Communist Party and between 1986 and 1990 a member of the Central Committee.

In June 1986 he was involved as deputy chairman of the government commission in the work of liquidating the consequences of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster and then wrote the book “In the midst of a human catastrophe” from his diary entries there . In September 1986 he was the deputy chairman of the commission of inquiry involved in coming to terms with the sinking of Admiral Nakhimov . From 1986 to 1989 he was deputy chairman (deputy head of government) of the Council of Ministers of the Ukrainian SSR .

Heorhij Dsis died at the age of 76 in Kiev and was buried there in the Baikowe cemetery . He was the author of more than 80 scientific publications.

Honors

Dsis received numerous honors, including the Order of the Red Labor Banner in 1971 , the Order of Friendship of Peoples in 1981 and the Soviet Union's Decoration of Honor in 1966, 1971 and 1976 . He was also awarded the title of Honored Economist of Ukraine . A memorial plaque is attached to his home in Kiev.
