Herb Shreve ( October 22, 1933 - October 22, 2011 ) was an American Baptist pastor. In 1975 he founded the Christian Motorcycle Club Christian Motorcyclists Association (CMA), which now has over 150,000 members.

Life

Herb Shreve grew up in Arkansas as the son of a Christian family. His first interests were fast cars and his love for Christ. He was baptized when he was eight . After school, he attended Ouchita Baptist University , where he played baseball , but also trained his preaching skills.

Until 1972 Shreve was pastor of the First Baptist Church in Cove , Arkansas . His son Herbie was a rocker at a young age and moved in circles that Shreve disliked. So he decided to do something about this. To get closer to his son again, he got himself a motorcycle. During a trip together, Shreve decided to do something for the Christian attitude of the biker culture. After a heart operation in 1975 he gave up his job as a pastor and founded the CMA with his son. At the beginning he traveled alone with his family through the country and began offering Christian literature on rallies and preaching to motorcyclists. Over time, the CMA developed into part of the rocker culture, with a one-piece color and different chapters spread across the country. Under his leadership, the CMA developed into the largest Christian organization on the rocker scene, which now has more than 150,000 members in 1,140 chapters in 31 countries around the world. In 1995 Shreve received a Hazel Kolb Brighter Image Award from the American Motorcyclist Association for his involvement in the biker scene.

On October 22, 2011, his 78th birthday, Herb Shreve passed away with his family. His funeral took place in the immediate family circle, closed to the public. The CMA in the United States dedicated his 2012 rally to him.
