Despite damage, the buildings in Pankstrasse were spared from destruction during World War II, with the exception of the sports hall. Nevertheless, the Lessing High School was relocated to its current location in Schöningstrasse in 1945. First the second girls' middle school and a little later the first three classes of a secondary school moved into the dilapidated houses at Pankstrasse 18-19 . This was given the name Herbert Hoover High School on February 6, 1956 in the presence of Herbert C. Hoover's son . In 2010 the school was converted into an integrated secondary school.
