Herbert Chipp (born January 4, 1850 in the London borough of Hampstead , † August 25, 1903 in Ely , Cambridgeshire ) was an English tennis player.

Chipp appeared regularly at the tournament at Wimbledon between 1882 and 1891 . In 1884 he reached the semi-finals there, but had to admit defeat Herbert Lawford in three sets. Chipp was mostly a baseline player who rarely played volleys .

In January 1888, Chipp was elected the first manager of the English Tennis Association ( Lawn Tennis Association ). In 1898 he published his book Lawn Tennis Recollections , in which he recounts his memories of players and matches.

At the age of 50, Chipp took part in the Wimbledon Championships again in 1900, but clearly lost his first game against GE Everet in three sets. He died in Ely three years later .
