Lawn Tennis Association

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Lawn Tennis Association ( LTA ) is the tennis - governing body of the United Kingdom , the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man .

history

The LTF was founded on January 26th, 1888 in London . As one of the first official acts, the rules for lawn tennis were laid down. The LTA is the organizer of the Wimbledon Championships , which is also their main source of income. Until 1985 the LTA was run by an honorary presidium.

One of the tasks of the LTA itself is to train and promote young British players. However, this only succeeded in the case of Tim Henman . The few other top British players received their training abroad, such as Greg Rusedski ( Canada ) and Andy Murray ( Spain ). That is why the association is regularly exposed to criticism.
