The Federação Moçambicana de Ténis ( FMT , Portuguese for: Mozambican Tennis Federation) is the umbrella organization for tennis in Mozambique . Its headquarters are at 11 Avenida Samora Machel , in the capital, Maputo .

history

The FMT was founded in 1979 after the country gained independence from Portugal in 1975.

After the FMT had been excluded from the ITF for a long time, it was resumed in 2010.

In 2014 Mozambique took part in the Davis Cup for the first time .

activities

The FMT organizes u. a. the various national tennis competitions ( Campeonatos nacionais de ténis ), which are held as a tournament once a year. The Mozambique Open has been one of the most important other tournaments in the country since 1999 .

Internationally, FMT u. a. the Mozambican Davis Cup team and the Mozambican Fed Cup team , as well as the Mozambican tennis players at the Commonwealth Games and the Games of the Community of Portuguese- Speaking Countries (CPLP). However, tennis is not represented at the Jogos da Lusofonia , but at the other, less publicized CPLP games.

organization

The FMT belongs u. a. the international tennis federation (ITF) and the African continental federation Confederation of African Tennis (CAT). She is also a member of the Comité Olímpico Nacional de Moçambique , the National Olympic Committee of Mozambique.

The President of the FMT is Valige Tauabo. After an initial four-year term from 2010, he was unanimously re-elected in 2014.
