Tennis Australia ( TA ) is the national tennis association of Australia .

history

After the Davis Cup was established in the early 20th century, the Australian players Norman Brookes and Alfred Dunlop strove to participate. In Australia, which became independent in 1901, there was no separate national association that was required for this. The Australasian Lawn Tennis Association (ALTA) was founded in September 1904 by representatives from the Australian states and New Zealand . In November 1905, the association hosted the first championships in Melbourne , which later became the Australian Open . In 1922 New Zealand established its own national association, and the Australian association was renamed the Lawn Tennis Association of Australia (LTAA). Today the association operates under the name Tennis Australia .

tasks

Tennis Australia organizes the Australian Open , one of the four most important tennis tournaments in the world. In addition, the association organizes the Australian Open Series , a preparatory series for the Australian Open that takes place between the end of December and the beginning of January, and the Australian Pro Tour in February and March.
