Herbert Gruener

Herbert Grüner (born June 22, 1959 in Forchheim ) is a German economist and educational scientist and professor of economics.

biography

Grüner studied business education at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg, Nuremberg (graduated with a degree as a commercial teacher) and received his doctorate in 1990 from the University of St. Gallen on the subject of vocational training policy and further education in Switzerland (Dr. oec. HSG). He obtained his habilitation in vocational and business education in 1999 at the Philosophical Faculty of the University of Stuttgart . The title of the habilitation thesis is: Determination of the company's further training needs - an educational study using the example of commercial and medium-sized companies .

At the beginning of the 1990s, Grüner held various management positions in universities and companies. a. Head of studies of a part-time advanced training course for medium-sized executives and full-time lecturer (assistant professor) for business administration at the University of St. Gallen and then head of the training and further education department of the Ernst & Young Group in Stuttgart . From 1996 he was a professor for human resource management (founding professorship) and vice-rector or first vice-president at the Eberswalde University for Sustainable Development in Eberswalde . In 2002 he was elected President of the Berlin University of Applied Sciences (HTW) to succeed Helmut Schmidt . During his term of office (2002–2006) the decision and the funding commitment to build a new campus on the Spree in Oberschöneweide was made by the State of Berlin and the diploma courses were converted into BA and MA courses. In 2007 he became professor of economics at the Berlin-Weißensee School of Art . In parallel to his professorship in Berlin-Weißensee, he dedicated himself to the task of founding rector of the private bbw University in Berlin , which was founded in 2007 and is sponsored by the Berlin-Brandenburg economy and the association of business associations Berlin-Brandenburg. His term of office, limited from the start, was characterized by the task of having the bbw University accredited by the German Science Council.

In 2012 he was elected Rector of the University of the Arts Bremen (HfK) for five years as successor to Manfred Cordes . The HfK is one of three German universities that offer training in art / design as well as music. At the beginning of his term of office, the HfK was evaluated positively by an expert group commissioned by the Senate of the State of Bremen. Among other things, he was able to acquire the first endowed professorship at the HfK during his tenure.

Since May 2017 he has been Rector of the New Design University Private University St. Pölten (NDU). The NDU is supported by the Lower Austrian Chamber of Commerce. As president or rector, he has been active in a number of higher education political institutions / organizations (including University Rectors 'Conference, State Rectors' Conference, Association of Private Universities, University Council member), he is also active in a number of cultural-political organizations that promote culture and the arts ( including member of the award committee of the Bremen Cultural Deputation, members of the Creative Industries IHK Berlin branch committee and in organizations with social objectives (including the foundation board of the St. Hedwig Kliniken public law institution in Berlin or member of the board of trustees of the Lower Austria relief organization, papal order of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem).

His main research interests are founding, managing and organizing companies in the creative industries, entrepreneurship in the arts and university didactics.

In addition to activities, e.g. B. for German accreditation agencies, Grüner u. a. Member of the German Society for Educational Science , the German Society for Personnel Management and on the board of the Scientific Commission for University Management of the Association of University Lecturers for Business Administration . Outside of his professional activities, he is active in sports (including badminton) and as a choir singer (tenor).
