Herbert Arthur Hervey, 5th Marquess of Bristol ( October 10, 1870 - April 5, 1960 ) was a British nobleman and diplomat .

Life

Herbert Hervey was the fifth son of Mariana, b. Hodnett († January 30, 1920) and Lord Augustus Henry Charles Hervey (1837–1875).

Herbert Hervey attended Clifton College. In 1892 Hervey joined the Foreign Service and was consul in Iquique , Chile , from 1892 to 1895 . He was one year chargé in Montevideo and Guatemala . From 1907 to 1909 he was consul in Harar under the ambassador W. Thesiger who resided in Addis Ababa in Abyssinia. From 1909 to 1911 he was consul in Bilbao . In 1913 he was appointed economic attaché. He was also envoy extraordinary and plenipotentiary. From 1919 to 1923 he was envoy to Colombia. From 1923 to 1928 he was envoy to Peru and Ecuador. In 1929 he was retired. In 1951, when his brother Frederick died , Hervey inherited the title of Marquess of Bristol . The Peruvian government awarded him the Grand Cross of the Order El Sol del Perú .

Herbert Hervey was married twice: October 19, 1914 (divorced in 1933), Lady Alice Jean Elaine Cochrane († January 5, 1955), and had a son, Victor , who inherited the title on his death. December 15, 1952, Dora Frances Emblin († March 27, 1953), only daughter of George Marshall and widow of Pedro Juan José de Zulueta.
