Charles Henry Bentinck

Sir Charles Henry Bentinck ( April 23, 1879 - March 26, 1955 ) was a British diplomat .

Life

Charles Henry Bentinck was the son of Henrietta Eliza Cathcart McKerrall and Henry Charles Adolphus Frederick William Bentinck. He studied at Trinity College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire and Wycliffe Hall, Oxford University, Oxford. Charles Henry Bentinck married Lucy Victoria Buxton. He joined the foreign service in 1904. He was inducted into the Order of St. Michael and St. George in 1923 , where he was promoted to Knight Commander in 1937 . From 1925 to 1928 he was Envoy Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary in Adis Abbeba, Ethiopia. From 1929 to 1933 he was Envoy Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary to Peru and Ecuador. In 1933 he was Envoy Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary in Bulgaria. In 1936 he was Envoy Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary in Czechoslovakia. From 1937 to 1940 he was ambassador to Santiago de Chile.

Ordained in 1941, he served as Vicar in West Farleigh Ward, Kent, England from 1941 to 1946. In 1946 he was a chaplain at the embassy in Brussels.
