Herbert Liedtke (born April 29, 1916 in Danzig , German Reich ) is a former Swedish athlete of German origin.

Life

Herbert Liedtke grew up in the Netherlands and Germany. In 1938 he fled National Socialism to Sweden and worked as a taxi operator in Stockholm .

From 2001 to 2015 he was the European record holder over 400 meters with a time of 87.11 seconds in the M85 age group and later also over 100 meters and was vice world champion there. In 2015, his European record over 400 m in the M85 age group was beaten by the then 86-year-old German Herbert E. Müller.

Herbert Liedtke is widowed and lives in a nursing home in Stockholm . He was married to his wife for 52 years. Liedtke has two children.

Movie and TV

Herbstgold (2010), a film by Jan Tenhaven , portrays Herbert Liedtke and four other senior athletes who had the common goal of participating in the2009 World Masters Athletics Championships in Lahti, Finland. In the Swedish television series 100 Höjdare , he played the fastest 90-year-old in the world in 2006and himself in one episode in 2007.
