content

The film tells the life-affirming story of five elderly people from all over Europe who share a common goal in the World Athletics Championships for seniors in Lahti, Finland . The greatest challenge is their old age. The potential world champions were between 80 and 100 years old, the oldest of the five was Alfred Proksch (1908–2011) from Vienna, who competed in throwing championships. They fight against their own impermanence with ambition, humor and self-irony. In addition to him, two women and two men were also portrayed. The women were Gabre Gabric (1917-2015), 1936 Olympic participant for Italy in discus throwing , and the German Ilse Pleuger (* 1923), who lives in Kiel, who competed in the shot put and discus throwing. The other two men were the German-Swedish sprinter Herbert Liedtke (* 1916), European record holder over 400 m in the age group over 85 years, and the Czech Jiří Soukup (* 1927), who competed in the high jump .

reception

  • The Focus writes: “Director Tenhaven casts a curious but also respectful look into the world of senior sport. It portrays people who want to get it right again on the home stretch of life and who ambitiously defy their own impermanence. Tenhaven's film is a successful homage to life and the sprightly athletes who still have big plans. "
