Herbert Metzen (born May 8, 1927 ) is a German football player .

Career

Metzen started playing football at VfR Aachen-Forst and moved to Alemannia Aachen in 1949 . But only in the 1950/51 season he came in the Oberliga West , in one of five seasons as the highest German division, to his point game debut . The game played on December 17, 1950 (3rd matchday) in the goalless draw at Rot-Weiß Oberhausen was his only game in the season. He and his team would almost have been relegated to the 2nd Oberliga West if his team hadn't won the decider for 14th place against Borussia M.gladbach 5-0 and the subsequent relegation to Oberliga West hadn't been successfully completed. So he stayed until the end of his career in the league, in which the best placement was achieved with 3rd place in the seasons 1951/52 , 1955/56 and 1957/58 .

During his club membership, Metzen played five games in the DFB-Pokal competition, in which he made his debut on May 1, 1953 at the Düsseldorf Rheinstadion . It was the final, which was lost 1: 2 against Rot-Weiss Essen ; the connecting goal by Jupp Derwall in the 56th minute was the only goal his team managed. In 1954/55 he was used again in four games in this competition before he and his team were eliminated from this on November 27, 1954 in the quarter-finals with 0-2 against Altona 93 .
