Herbert Popp
Herbert Popp (born March 16, 1947 in Bayreuth ) is a German geographer.
Life
Popp attended high school in Bayreuth and passed the Abitur. After studying geography, completing his doctorate and habilitation at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg , he initially worked as an assistant and then as a professor of geography at the Universities of Erlangen-Nuremberg, Passau (1985-1994) and the Technical University of Munich (1994-1999), before he was appointed to the University of Bayreuth in 1999 , where he held the chair for urban geography and geography of rural areas. He retired in Bayreuth in 2012.
Services
With his research focus on North Africa , he enriched the interdisciplinary African studies focus at the University of Bayreuth. His regional studies on southern Germany brought him to the board of the Institute for Development Research in Rural Areas Upper and Middle Franconia. V. For the region he gained additional importance through his commitment to teacher training. In international and national research committees he worked as a DFG reviewer and in various functions, such as in the Association of Geographers at German Universities or in the International Geographical Union . In addition to publications, he was the editor of several scientific series. Herbert Popp is currently chairman of the Prof. Dr. Frithjof Voss Foundation - Foundation for Geography .
