Herbert Schiller (archivist)

Herbert Schiller (born April 20, 1892 in Plauen / Vogtl. , † 1978 ) was a German archivist and editor .

Life

Schiller came from the Saxon Vogtland . He studied at the University of Freiburg , where he 1917 Dr. phil. received his doctorate. Subsequently, he successfully applied for a position as literary advisory board at Cotta-Verlag that same year . In addition, he was in charge of the publisher's archive.

After the end of the Second World War he got a job as an employee in the State Archives in Würzburg . In 1947 he moved to the Stuttgart City Archives , where he took over management. He achieved merits there, among other things, by consistently reducing the stocks that were outsourced during the war. The local museums in Feuerbach (1950) and Möhringen (1953), which are affiliated to the city archive, were opened under his direction. He retired in 1957 at the age of 65.

Herbert Schiller researched and published mainly on the history of the city of Stuttgart.
