Herbert Waldmann

Herbert Waldmann (born June 11, 1957 in Neuwied ) is a German chemist .

Life

After graduating from high school, Herbert Waldmann studied chemistry at the University of Mainz from 1976 onwards at Werner-Heisenberg-Gymnasium in Neuwied and completed his doctoral thesis in 1985 with Horst Kunz . He then spent two years as a postdoctoral fellow at Harvard University with George Whitesides , Cambridge, USA. He completed his habilitation from 1986 to 1991 at the University of Mainz . Shortly afterwards he was offered a professorship for organic chemistry at the University of Bonn. In 1993 he took over a chair for organic chemistry at the University of Karlsruhe . Since 1999 he has headed the Chemical Biology Department at the Max Planck Institute for Molecular Physiology in Dortmund and is Professor of Biochemistry at the University of Dortmund . In 2007 he was also the “Managing Director” of the “Center of Advanced European Studies and Research” ( caesar research center ) in Bonn.
