Herbert West

Herbert West (born November 22, 1911 in Berlin ; † December 25, 1959 ) was an FDGB functionary. He was first secretary of the Chamber of Technology (KdT).

Life

West, the son of a working class family, attended the elementary and middle school , completed an apprenticeship as a machinist and later in the profession operates. In 1930 he became a member of the German Metal Workers' Association and in 1931 the SPD . In 1932 he joined the police force . From 1935 he worked in the Wehrmacht in technical administration and studied mechanical engineering at the Heereswaffenmeisterschule in Berlin-Treptow . From 1945 to 1949 West was a Soviet prisoner of war and was a member of an anti-fascist committee.

In July 1949 he returned to Germany. In the same year he became a candidate and in 1952 a member of the SED . First he worked as an engineer in the VVB Eisen Metall Kleinmachnow , from November 1949 as an employee, later as head of the labor and social department of the FDGB state board Brandenburg . From 1951 to 1953 he acted as Vice President of the Brandenburg State Chamber of Crafts, and from July 1951 as Managing Director of the Brandenburg State Chamber. West was temporarily also a member of the secretariat of the FDGB state board Brandenburg. From April 1952 he headed the main organization department, from 1953 the main department "Technical Progress" in the central management of the KdT. From November 1952 to 1959 he was first secretary of the KdT, from 1955 to 1959 he was also a member of the FDGB federal executive committee and its executive committee.

West died after a serious illness.
