Herdegen von Culm is the name of a local Franconian noble family .

The Herdegen von Culm have adopted their name affix because of the Kulm , which is now also called Sophienberg . In exchange with Burgrave Friedrich the Elder , Nikol von Herdegen received the Kulm in 1512 and built his castle a year later. A guard tower preceded the castle . The castle was destroyed in the Second Margrave War in 1553. In 1614, Hans Wolf von Herdegen sold the manor to Margravine Marie , who had the castle restored. Later a margravial princess castle was built there. The Herdegen von Culm were also represented at the Ganerbeburg Rothenberg . As part of the imperial-free knighthoods, the family was organized in the knight canton of Gebürg .

The coat of arms with the inscription "Herzogen von Culm" shows in Siebmacher's book of arms a red oblique left bar on a silver background, which is covered with a short sword. The helmet covers are red and silver. The crowned crest is composed of an open flight and a stump with a sword stretched upwards.
