Here We Are Again is Country Joe and the Fish's fourth album . It was published in 1969 with the US catalog number Vanguard VSD 79299, reached number 48 on the Billboard 200, and was in the charts for eleven weeks.

History of origin

The pieces were composed by Country Joe McDonald and Barry Melton . In fact, the band only existed on paper at that point. The two founders "Country Joe" McDonald (vocals, guitar) and Barry "The Fish" Melton (lead guitar, vocals) had already fallen out when recording their predecessor, Together . There was also no longer a permanent band. The bass recordings Peter Albin, Jack Casady and Mark Ryan shared. Gary "Chicken" Hirsh was the band's permanent drummer at the time. As a session drummer, however, David Getz ( Big Brother and the Holding Company ) was involved in the recordings and played the drums on two tracks. The piano was recorded by Mark Kapner . Samuel Charters took over the production . The album was recorded at Vanguard Studios, 23rd Street in New York and Pacific High Studios in San Francisco

A single titled Here I Go Again / Baby, You're Driving Me Crazy was released from the album, but it did not make it into the charts.

Music style and reception

For the first time, some tracks were accompanied by string and wind groups under the arrangement of Ed Bland. Overall, it was one of the weaker albums by the band that gave up their folk roots in favor of a more blues- and pop- oriented style of music.
