Heribert Bastel CO (born June 10, 1924 in Vienna ) is a theologian.

Life

He passed the Matura in 1942 and then went to the Reich Labor Service . After he was drafted into the Wehrmacht, he was taken prisoner by the French. In 1946 he entered the Vienna Seminary and was on 29 June 1951 priests ordained. From 1951 to 1953 he was chaplain in Baden (Lower Austria) , from 1953 to 1957 cathedral vicar in St. Stephan, from 1957 to 1978 professor of religion at the Theresianum in Vienna . In 1973 he received the Dr. theol. in Vienna. He is a founding member of the congregation of the Oratory of St. Philipp Neri in Vienna and was pastor of St. Roch from 1978 to 1987 . In 1989 he was a founding member of the oratory in Maria-Lanzendorf and from 1975 to 1999 pastor of the local community. At times he also served as the rector of the Collegium Sanctissimae Trinitatis in Mayerling, which is headed by the oratory. From 1987 to 2001 he lectured in spiritual theology at the Heiligenkreuz University of Applied Sciences, and from 1994 to 2015 Bastel also taught at the University of Vienna. He has been a dedicated employee of the Legion of Mary since 1951 and was a sought-after leader of the retreat well into old age. Friedrich Wessely exerted the greatest influence on handicrafts , who introduced him to the teachings of St. John of the Cross and Cardinal de Bérulle while studying theology at the University of Vienna .
