Heribert Christian Scheeben
Karl Christian Anton Scheeben , also HC Scheeben , (born November 26, 1890 in Cologne-Wahn , † August 1, 1968 in Cologne ) was a German church historian and author.
Life
Scheebens was initially a member of the Dominican Order , from which he later resigned.
Scheeben was considered an expert on the life and work of Albertus Magnus . He was the main initiator of the founding of the Albertus Magnus Institute in Cologne and was able to win the Görres Society in 1930 to implement it.
During the National Socialism he belonged to the Cologne circle around the Dominican Laurentius Siemer , whose declared duty was to "do everything possible so that National Socialism would be destroyed". He postulated the "ruthless and consistent participation in the conspiracy against the Nazi state".
In 1946 he was one of the founding members of the CDU Cologne and one of the initiators of the reconstruction of Cologne University.
For his work on Albertus Magnus, he was awarded honorary citizenship of the city of Lauingen (Danube) . He is the namesake of Dr.-Scheeben-Strasse in Cologne-Brück .
In 1952 he was appointed Knight of the Order of Knights of the Holy Sepulcher by Cardinal Grand Master Nicola Cardinal Canali and invested on May 1, 1952 by Lorenz Jaeger , Grand Prior of the German Lieutenancy .
