Herm. Dauelsberg

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Herm. Dauelsberg GmbH & Co. KG is a family-run shipping company based on Am Wall in Bremen. In 2015, the company parts Asiatic Lloyd and Atlantic Lloyd emerged.

history

The company was founded in 1857 by Hermann Dauelsberg as the takeover of an existing ship brokerage in Bremen . At that time, Christian August Bunnemann was already an apprentice to the company - he later became a partner and took over the company entirely in 1887 after the death of the founder's son, Carl Dauelsberg. Shortly after it was founded, Dauelsberg took on the interests of various shipping companies as a liner agency. After initially booking individual loads - starting with the purchase of the Brigg Betty in 1867 - own ships were also operated. A special focus of the work up to the end of the 19th century was on the emigration business.

In 1976 the management of the company passed into the hands of C. Andreas Bunnemann and Klaus F. Bunnemann. In the 1980s and 1990s, more and more liner shipping companies took over the agency business themselves, whereupon Dauelsberg increasingly acquired its own container and bulk carriers. In April 2008, Klaus F. Bunnemann's son Nicolaus Bunnemann joined the company.

In 2009, Friedrich Bunnemann, the twin brother of Nicolaus Bunnemann, founded the independent shipping company Asiatic Lloyd in Singapore , which acquired a total of 19 used ships, including 17 feeder ships, by 2010 and commissioned the first 9,000 TEU newbuildings in 2014.

Due to differing views on the further development of the joint shipping company, C. Andreas and Klaus Bunnemann split the Dauelsberg fleet among themselves in 2014, with C. Andreas taking over the remaining shares in Herm. Dauelsberg acquired. Bunhold, chaired by Klaus Bunnemann, acts as the umbrella holding of the corporate group. In 2014 Nicolaus Bunnemann took over the management of the newly founded Atlantic Lloyd shipping company in Hamburg .

Today's fleet consists of around 25 ships - mostly container ships in sizes from 1000 to 9000 TEU as well as some bulk carriers.
