Tony Halik (born January 24, 1921 in Thorn , † May 23, 1998 in Warsaw ) was a Polish journalist.

Life

After the Second World War , he traveled to Argentina with his French wife, whom he had met in France during the war . Here he temporarily pretended to be the former personal pilot of the Argentine President Juan Perón . He drove up the Paraná with his wife . Both were then considered lost for longer. The reappearance of those believed dead drew considerable attention. He received the offer of the US magazine Life to work with.

He and his wife went up the Paraguay River in the White Shadow sailboat . Later they sailed the Amazon between Iquitos and Marañón and came to the Mato Grosso plateau . Halik lived with the Jinan Indians for nine months and filmed the everyday life of the tribe.

Another four-year expedition took him and his wife from Alaska to Tierra del Fuego . His child was born on this trip.

Halik then initially returned to Poland, but then traveled with his second wife, Elżbieta Dzikowska , to Sri Lanka , Egypt , Morocco , China , Easter Island , Australia , Thailand , Kenya , Malta , Mexico and Guatemala . In addition, he undertook sea and river trips in the Adriatic , the Caribbean , the Mediterranean and various European rivers.

During a trip through Peru in 1976 he discovered Vilcabamba , the former capital of the Incas .

In Costa Rica the place Puente Halik is named after him. The existence of the place goes back to a bridge made of lianas by Halik.
