Herman de Coninck Prize
The Herman de Coninck Prize ( Herman de Coninckprijs ) is a Flemish literary prize for poetry .
The prize has existed since 2007 and is awarded annually in the nationwide Poetry Week on Poetry Day (Poetry Day ) in Antwerp in three categories : To be awarded
- (1.) the best volume of poetry published in the previous year,
- (2nd) the best poetry debut as well
- (3.) the best poem.
The prizes are awarded by the boek.be association . The prize money is provided by the Province of Antwerp .
The winner for the best volume of poetry will receive prize money of 6,000 euros (as of 2017), the best debut will receive a cash prize of 1,000 euros. The best poem is determined by the vote of the audience from Radio 1 (Flanders), the TV station Canvas and the newspaper De Standaard . As the prize for the winner, the best poem will be printed on posters and distributed free of charge in the country's (approx. 160) bookshops.
Name of the prize
The name of the award is intended to commemorate the life and work of the poet, journalist and essayist Herman de Coninck ( 1944-1997 ), who is revered among the Belgian population as the man who taught the people to read poetry (de man die zijn volk poëzie leerde lezen).
