H. Lamm on the Dillinger wanted poster

Hermann Lamm (born April 19, 1890 in Kassel , † December 16, 1930 in Sidell , Illinois ) was a German-American bank robber. In his robberies, he paid close attention to the details of the target objects and was described as "the father of the modern bank robbery". Lamm, a former Prussian Army soldier who immigrated to the United States, believed a raid required the full planning of a military operation. He pioneered the concept of casing a bank and developing escape routes before carrying out the robbery. Using a careful planning system called "The Lamm Technique," he has carried out dozens of successful bank robberies since the end of the First World War.

1930 committed lamb in Sidell, Illinois, suicide when he was surrounded by a botched robbery of a unit of law enforcement. Lamm's techniques have been analyzed and emulated by other bank robbers across the country, including the infamous John Dillinger .
