Herman Rosse (born January 1, 1887 as Hermann Rosse in The Hague , Netherlands , † April 13, 1965 in Nyack , New York ) was an American production designer of Dutch descent who won the Oscar for best production design at the November 1930 Academy Awards won.

biography

Rosses father was German, his mother Dutch. In his homeland, Rosse received an architectural education. In October 1919 he moved to the United States with the aim of settling in Chicago .

Rosse worked for some time as a production designer and art director in the Hollywood film industry in the early 1930s and received the Oscar in this category for the production design in The Jazz King (1930) by John Murray Anderson .

Other films in which he worked as a production designer were East Is West (1930) by Monta Bell , Strictly Dishonorable (1931) by John M. Stahl and The Emperor Jones (1933) by Dudley Murphy .
