Herman Severin Løvenskiold

Herman Severin Løvenskiold (born July 30, 1815 in Holden Jernværk , Telemark , Norway ; † December 5, 1870 in Copenhagen ) was a Danish composer .

Life

Løvenskiold grew up in Copenhagen , where he also received his musical training. From 1840 to 1841 he went on an educational trip through Germany and Austria , during which he studied with Ignaz von Seyfried in Vienna and met Joseph Fischhof several times. From 1840 to 1843 he corresponded with Robert Schumann , whom he informed on July 17, 1840 that he was a Dane, not a Swede.

From 1851 he was court organist at Christiansborg .

He composed an opera , two ballets (including La Sylphide ) and several plays, two concert overtures, a piano quintet, marches, dances, piano pieces and songs .
