Herman Siemens

Herman Werner Siemens (born December 9, 1963 in Cali , Colombia ) is an Italian - Canadian philosopher . The specialist in Nietzsche's thinking teaches as an associate professor at the University of Leiden .

Life

Siemens obtained a Bachelor of Science degree from the London School of Economics and Political Science in 1985 . In 1993 he obtained his doctorate in philosophy at the University of Essex in Colchester with a dissertation that illuminates Nietzsche's relationship to Socrates. He initially taught at the University of Essex before accepting a position as Assistant Professor of Intellectual History at the East Mediterranean University in Gazimağusa in 1994. In 1997 and 1998 he worked for the Queen Mary University of London . From 1998 he was assistant to Paul van Tongeren at Radboud University Nijmegen . He has been teaching at Leiden University since 2003.

Herman Siemens has been President of the Friedrich Nietzsche Society of Great Britain and Ireland since 2008 . In 2011 he was one of the founders of the Center for Political Philosophy . In 2013 he was invited to the Universidad Diego Portales in Santiago de Chile as a visiting professor .

Siemens is particularly known for philosophical studies and reference works on Friedrich Nietzsche. He has also emerged as the organizer of important international Nietzsche research conferences.
